The South Carolina Angel Investor Tax Credit (TC-56) provided a 35% nonrefundable income tax credit to accredited investors who invested in SC DOR-certified 'qualified businesses' — early-stage South Carolina companies in manufacturing, IT, R&D, and related sectors. The program covered investments made 2013–2025 and expired on December 31, 2025. The credit was capped at $100,000 per individual per year, with a statewide $5 million annual cap (pro-rata allocation if exceeded). Credits carried forward 10 years and were transferable via Notice of Transfer. The program was investor-side: investors claimed the credit; companies benefited indirectly by being on SC DOR's certified qualified-business list, improving their attractiveness to SC-based angels.
