The Job Tax Credit (SC Code §12-6-3360) provides a per-job-per-year income tax credit to businesses that create net new full-time jobs in South Carolina. The credit amount depends on the county's economic development tier — from $1,500/job/year in Tier I (most developed) to $25,000/job/year in Tier IV (least developed counties). County tier rankings are updated annually each December by SC DOR based on BLS unemployment and per-capita income data. The standard credit (TC-4) requires a minimum of 10 new net full-time jobs. A Small Business variant (TC-4SB) requires only 2 new jobs for businesses with 99 or fewer employees. The credit is claimed for 5 consecutive years starting in the year after jobs are created, subject to a 50% of SC tax liability cap and a 15-year carryforward.
