Cambridge Enterprise is the University of Cambridge's innovation arm. It manages IP, patent prosecution, technology licensing, and spinout creation, and in FY2024/25 it supported 2,771 researchers, filed 372 patent applications, and formed 20 new spinouts. Its portfolio companies have raised over £3 billion in follow-on investment.

Its venture-building capital runs through the University Venture Fund, the University Discovery Fund, and the Cambridge START programme. These routes are equity or equity-like, not grants. The Discovery Fund has deployed £20,000 tickets at the pre-seed stage, while the Venture Fund backs Cambridge-affiliated spinouts from pre-seed through Series A and beyond.

Eligibility is limited to Cambridge faculty, students, postdocs, researchers, alumni, and companies commercialising Cambridge IP. Its founders platform also runs SYNC, SPARK, and START for the Cambridge community, combining seed capital, mentoring, and access to a global expert network when a team needs patient capital rather than a public grant competition in practice.
