Nysnø Climate Investments
Invests in climate technologies through minority ownership, direct startup support, and commitments to specialized climate funds.
Nysnø Climate Investments is Norway's state-owned climate investment company, managed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. Established in December 2017 and structured as an AS, it deploys risk capital to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, with about NOK 5.5 billion in assets under management, 49 direct investments, and exposure to 429 companies through fund commitments.
Its capital is deployed in two ways: direct equity into climate-tech companies and LP commitments into climate-focused venture and private equity funds. Direct tickets typically run NOK 20 million to NOK 100 million, while fund commitments typically run NOK 30 million to NOK 140 million. The mandate covers clean energy, digital and enabling technologies, resource efficiency, sustainable demand, and circular economy themes, with activity extending into renewables, hydrogen, batteries, agtech, maritime, and carbon removal.
Nysnø invests only on equal commercial terms and always as a minority co-investor alongside private capital, so founders need outside support before it will step in. That makes it a patient, market-based backer for Norwegian companies or companies with Norwegian origin and operations that can pair climate impact with commercial return. It does not issue grants, loans, or subsidies, which is what separates it from Norway's grant agencies.
