Complement-ARIE Challenge
Pays up to $50,000 each to 20 teams building human-based alternatives to animal testing.
The Complement-ARIE Challenge is an NIH Common Fund prize that pays up to $50,000 each to 20 teams building human-based alternatives to animal testing. Teams submitted a 15-page whitepaper covering methodology, team expertise, scientific rationale and potential impact, scored against five weighted judging criteria: understanding of the problem, feasibility, innovation, potential impact and team coโฆ
The challenge sought New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) that model human biology without animal models: in vitro human-derived cell or tissue systems, in silico computational and AI-driven simulations, in chemico cell-free systems, and integrations across these. Submissions had to demonstrate substantial advancement over current NAM approaches and could target areas like rare disease, pregnancy, toxicology or drug response modeling.
