Danish Lecturer Scheme — seed
Offers research teams and institutions for Danish Lecturer Scheme in cross-sector innovation.
The Danish Lecturer Scheme (Lektoratsordningen), established in 1937, is administered by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science (UFSN) under the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. Its mandate is to promote Danish language, literature, and culture abroad by subsidising visiting lectureships at foreign universities. More than sixty universities worldwide currently offer Danish-language programmes, collectively enrolling more than 2,000 students, and fifteen of those universities host positions co-funded under this scheme.
Foreign universities seeking to establish or maintain a co-funded visiting lectureship must submit a formal application demonstrating their capacity to co-fund the position. The Danish-language courses must form part of a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD programme in Danish or a related field such as Scandinavian or Northern European Studies. The UFSN Lectureship Committee — composed of regional specialists covering the Nordic-Baltic, Romance, Anglophone, Germanic, Eastern and Central European, and Asian regions — reviews applications, conducts candidate interviews, and recommends appointments to partner universities. Recruitment for lectureship positions takes place each spring. No award amounts are published publicly; terms are set through individual cooperation agreements.
Beyond the co-funded lectureships, all sixty-plus universities with Danish programmes can apply on a rolling basis for smaller teaching-materials grants covering study trips, conference organisation, textbooks, and other activities that support Danish language instruction. Applications are submitted using a Word form available on the UFSN website, and contact for both tracks is Specialkonsulent Rikke Brunsgaard Andersen (rba@ufm.dk). Applicants should contact UFSN early, as co-funding capacity and an existing Danish curriculum are prerequisites that must be demonstrated before any lectureship partnership can be formalised.
