Ministry of Higher Education and Science (Denmark)
Supports Denmark's Ministry of Higher Education and Science, guiding national education and innovation policy.
Denmark's Ministry of Higher Education and Science, known as UFM, is the federal ministry for higher education, research, and innovation policy. It sits above the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science, which handles operational delivery, while UFM sets the direction for a system that supports almost DKK 30 billion in public research and innovation each year.
UFM's direct routes include EUopSTART for Horizon Europe and European Defence Fund bid preparation, Erasmus+ as Denmark's National Agency, Nordplus, the Danish Lecturer Scheme, the Denmark-USA Programme, and OPU work placements abroad. EUopSTART can cover up to 50% of eligible preparation costs, with awards of DKK 75,000 or DKK 150,000, while the ESA Arctic study call is backed by EUR 425,000 with a possible EUR 1.275 million follow-on.
The ministry is best understood as a policy and delivery-steering body rather than a hands-on grant shop. UFSN handles the calls and submission routes, including e-grant and programme guidance, while UFM also oversees separate statutory bodies such as Independent Research Fund Denmark, Innovation Fund Denmark, and the Danish National Research Foundation under their own mandates.
