ESA Kick-start Activities work through each country's own national delegation rather than a single central grant: every applicant must get sign-off from its own country's ESA National Delegation before a bid can go in, since ESA membership alone doesn't carry funding for this particular call, and companies based in Germany, Luxembourg, Norway or the UK already have that funding pre-approved for th

ESA wants satellite-based services that either directly stop environmental crime -- illegal waste dumping, poaching and wildlife trafficking (estimated at $6-21 billion a year), illegal logging and charcoal trafficking (estimated at $45-173 billion a year), illegal mining, or unreported and unregulated fishing -- or help industries prove they comply with environmental regulations. Solutions can draw on Earth Observation to detect changes such as deforestation or illegal waste dumping, GNSS tracking of vessels and wildlife, or satellite communications linking patrol units and unmanned aerial vehicles in the field. The call is split into three sub-calls: Environmental Quality, Poaching and Trafficking, and Natural Resources, each with its own deadline.
