Horizon Clean Industry: Energy-Intensive Decarbonisation
Funds eight €15–25M lump-sum projects that turn carbon capture, clean energy and circular production ideas into market-ready industrial demonstrations.
Energy-intensive industries need to cut emissions while staying competitive in Europe. This topic funds first-of-a-kind industrial solutions that can move from advanced development into real deployment, with a business case strong enough to support further investment and market uptake.

Developing and demonstrating innovative decarbonisation solutions for energy-intensive industries in one main area: carbon capture, utilisation or storage; clean energy use in production, including electrification, hydrogen, renewable storage and waste heat; or circularity and resource efficiency across materials, energy and water. Projects can combine the areas when the combination is integrated, innovative and capable of producing low-carbon solutions. Activities start at TRL 6 and reach TRL 7-8, with a credible business plan, market-readiness strategy, permits pathway and industrial deployment partner ready before the go/no-go decision ahead of the contracting and demonstration phase.
