R&I in Support of the Clean Industrial Deal: Decarbonisation of Energy-Intensive Industries
Funds €15–25M industrial demonstrators that make Europe’s energy-intensive production cleaner and commercially ready.
The Clean Industrial Deal aims to keep manufacturing in Europe while cutting emissions from energy-intensive production. This Innovation Action supports industry-led demonstrations that move clean technologies from advanced validation toward deployment, with a commercially viable product or process and a credible business plan.

Demonstrate innovative decarbonisation technologies in EU energy-intensive industries through one main area: managing the carbon cycle with CCU or CCUS; clean energy use including electrification, hydrogen, renewable storage and waste heat; or circularity and resource efficiency in materials, energy and water. Projects should integrate technologies at TRL 6 and reach TRL 7–8, deliver first-of-a-kind or optimised industrial demonstrations, reduce emissions and resource use, and show a positive life-cycle and credible route to market. Include a clear go/no-go decision before demonstration and detailed engineering, permits, techno-economic, business and market-readiness plans.
