Advanced Materials for Raw-Material Independence
Funds six €6–7.5M projects that replace critical raw materials with safe, sustainable advanced materials and processes.
European industries depend on a small number of external sources for critical and strategic raw materials. This topic funds the full innovation cycle needed to reduce that dependence: redesigning materials, improving production processes and integrating the result into an industrial product or application.

An Innovation Action to reduce dependence on critical and strategic raw materials through innovative advanced materials and more efficient production processes. Projects can target energy, mobility, construction, electronics, medical devices or chemical industries; co-develop materials and processes; adapt production lines; and demonstrate clear use cases, market potential and substitution pathways. The Safe and Sustainable by Design framework must guide transparent decisions throughout the innovation cycle, from material redesign through industrial product integration, with activities starting at TRL 5 and reaching TRL 7.
