Horizon Wave and Tidal Energy Systems

Funds a €43M Innovation Action that advances wave and tidal energy from breakthrough research to multiple monitored demonstrations.

ScheduledEuropean CommissionEU

Wave and tidal energy could contribute more to Europe’s clean-energy system, but devices and supporting infrastructure must become more efficient, reliable, durable, affordable and resilient in harsh ocean environments. This topic funds one large Innovation Action that connects breakthrough research, validation and real-sea or controlled-environment demonstration.

The core consortium can develop

A large-scale Innovation Action for wave and tidal energy, combining breakthrough and validation research with at least three distinct monitored demonstrations. The project covers devices, sustainable materials, moorings, power connections, condition monitoring, AI, manufacturing and lifecycle operations, with tiered FSTP calls, stage-gate decisions, permits, engineering and business plans, and TRL 6-7 outcomes.
