Horizon Edge Data Centre Heat Recovery
Funds three €5.25M projects to cool small edge data centres and turn their waste heat into useful local energy in cold and warm climates.
The growth of digital services is increasing energy demand, including from small IT rooms and edge data centres embedded in buildings or communities. These facilities can produce useful excess heat, but recovery is difficult when cooling, building systems and nearby demand are not designed together. This topic funds three Innovation Actions to make those sites more energy- and resource-efficient. …
Demonstrating holistic, cost-effective thermal management and waste-heat recovery for 100-500 kW IT rooms and small edge data centres outside the recast Energy Efficiency Directive. Projects should integrate cooling, heat storage or upgrading where useful, building envelopes, digital twins, building-management systems, local or nearby heat users, business cases and climate-specific operation in both cold and warm locations, reaching TRL 6-7.
