Funds two €4M projects for European consortia building bio-based products and studying whether people will actually adopt them.
Bio-based innovation often stalls for reasons that have nothing to do with the science. A product can work perfectly in the lab and still fail because nobody trusts it, understands it, or wants to change how they live to use it. This topic funds closing that gap — building real bio-based products, and studying, at the same time, whether society is actually ready for them.

Developing bio-based products or services — enabled by biotechnology and biomanufacturing, and linked to digital tools like AI or bioinformatics where relevant — that cut environmental and climate pressure from everyday consumer goods, paired with the social science to test whether people, markets and policy will actually adopt them: new socio-economic models for circular and bio-based systems, research into public perception and acceptance, and cooperation with industry and public authorities on the resulting market solutions. Activities are expected to reach TRL 4-5 by the end of the project; work may start at any TRL.
