Horizon Cities Mission: Public Transport & Shared Mobility
Funds two €10M projects that make city public transport more energy efficient and better linked to car-sharing, ride-hailing and other shared mobility.
Cities across the EU are chasing climate-neutrality targets, and public transport is one of the biggest levers they have — but a lot of buses, trams and metros still use more energy than they need to, and they don't always connect well with newer options like ride-hailing, car-sharing and other shared mobility. This topic funds real pilots that fix that, not studies about it.

Testing and piloting real changes — technology, policy and business-model — that make urban and sub-urban public transport more energy efficient and more attractive, and integrate it properly with urban mobility service car fleets (taxis, ride-hailing, car-sharing) and other active and shared mobility. Consortia run their pilots across at least three lead cities from different EU Member States or Associated Countries (at least one an EU Mission city) plus at least three follower cities, assess the full ecological footprint of what they test, and turn the results into EU-wide guidance, assessment tools and recommendations for local authorities and public transport operators, delivered in coordination with the Cities Mission Platform through CIVITAS.
