EU Missions under Horizon Europe

Supports Five EU funded moonshot programmes targeting climate, cancer, ocean health, smart cities, and soil coordinated R&I grants with targets.

EU Missions under Horizon Europe sit in the European Commission's research portfolio and group five mission programmes around climate adaptation, cancer, ocean and waters, climate-neutral and smart cities, and healthy soils. They are framed as 2030 goal-driven portfolios rather than single-topic grants, with each mission defined by a measurable public outcome. The programme uses grants, usually in large collaborative projects, with budgets from €1 million to €20 million and a biennial call pattern. EU legal entities and associated-country organisations can apply, and consortia are required. The five missions aim for at least 150 climate-resilient regions and communities, better lives for 3 million people with cancer, restored oceans and waters, 100 climate-neutral smart cities, and 100 living labs for healthy soils. The 2026 mission calls open on a unified 23 September 2026 deadline, with follow-on calls expected in September 2027. Delivery is split across CINEA, REA, HaDEA, and EISMEA depending on topic. The strongest fit is a consortium that can tie its work directly to one of the five mission targets and show a credible path to measurable impact by 2030.
