Landscape Agroforestry for Healthy Soil
Funds two €8M projects that scale agroforestry across landscapes and make healthier soil a practical, profitable choice.
Agroforestry combines trees and shrubs with farming, helping soils retain water, supporting biodiversity and creating more resilient sources of income. Yet adoption is still limited because establishment costs are high, returns take time and existing finance and business models are designed for simpler farm systems.
This topic funds projects that work at landscape scale rather than on one farm. F…
Co-design, pilot and scale locally adapted agroforestry systems at landscape level across varied EU and Associated-Country pedo-climatic contexts. Establish soil baselines and monitor changes under agroforestry, conventional and organic management; assess technical, social, economic, cultural and environmental viability; build long-term value-chain business models and finance pathways; provide training and capacity building; and develop policy recommendations. Use a mandatory multi-actor approach, coordinate with Mission Soil living labs and the Agroecology Partnership, and make data FAIR and potentially available through EUSO and SoilWise.
