Climate-Resilient Urban Wastewater Solutions
Funds €9.5M projects that make city wastewater systems climate-resilient, resource-positive and ready for wider replication.
Cities need wastewater systems that can cope with heavier storms and water scarcity while using less energy and recovering more value. This topic funds integrated approaches that connect wastewater, stormwater, water reuse and resource recovery at city or regional level.

Develop and demonstrate integrated urban wastewater, stormwater and water-reuse solutions in at least two cities or regions, with at least two additional replicators. Address at least three of nature-based solutions, sustainable drainage, energy or resource recovery, and regional resource pooling, while also reusing water, testing combined treatment and valorisation processes, and creating enabling conditions for replication. Involve four cities or regions from different countries, including a Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission city and an Adaptation Mission Charter signatory, and formalise collaboration with the Cities Mission and Adaptation platforms.
