Funds two €5M consortium projects that build predictive maintenance tools and repair methods for existing buildings, proven on three real sites across Europe.
Most building maintenance today is reactive: something breaks, then it gets fixed. That's slow, disruptive for the people living and working there, and often wasteful — tearing out and replacing parts of a building creates close to the same emissions and raw-material use that keeping the building running was supposed to avoid. Building an LCA-based decision-support tool that predicts when and how an existing building needs maintenance, plus an actual package of maintenance and repair measures that extends the building's service life — circular, financially workable over the rest of the building's life, compliant with EU and national rules, and designed to minimise noise and disruption for occupants. Both get demonstrated on three real buildings in three different EU Member States or Associated Countries: one a heritage building, one a social or affordable housing project. The project also has to map where predictive maintenance hits real-world barriers and propose ways past them.
