FACTEUR – Database Grants

Pays up to €70,000 to fact-checkers feeding a shared European fact-check database.

The grant funds setting up the technical infrastructure and workflows to feed fact-checks into a centralised European database built by EFCSN and its partners, reviewing and correcting AI-generated metadata, licensing the data to EFCSN under fair and reasonable conditions so third parties can access it, and promoting the database. Eligible applicants are for-profit or non-profit legal entities that either are fact-checking organisations themselves or operate a fact-checking team inside a larger organisation, and they must publish an average of at least four human-authored fact-checks every month. The bulk of their editorial coverage has to center on a Council of Europe member state, Kosovo, Belarus or Russia. Applicants also need EFCSN certification and a base in the EU or a country tied to the Digital Europe Programme.
