Space-Based Services for Smart Airports

Pays up to €250K in zero-equity funding for space-enabled smart-airport services.

ESA defines a "smart airport" broadly: the whole ensemble of automated solutions, devices and services across an airport's operations, checkpoints, passenger and cargo control, and internal communications, connected in a similar way to smart-city technology. Beyond the three space technologies already core to the brief -- navigation, communications and Earth observation -- ESA also lists a fourth:

ESA wants a feasibility study identifying and characterising space-based services for the smart-airports domain -- from satellite navigation for asset tracking and airport operations, to satellite communications for maintenance and secure links, to Earth observation for monitoring and forecasting. Relevant topics include improving passenger experience, operational efficiency, cybersecurity, safety around airports, and moving towards greener airport operations.
