Apply AI: Pilot of the 'Science for AI' Pillar of RAISE
Pays one network of leading European AI research institutes EUR 17 million to run a virtual pan-European AI research institute pursuing frontier, fundamental AI science.
Activities under this pilot are expected to start around TRL 2 and reach TRL 4 by the time the project ends, so the work stays in early, fundamental-science territory rather than moving toward product development. Within the consortium's excellence bar, the Commission is specific about what counts as senior staff with a strong track record: at least 60% of each participant's senior AI researchers …
Selected proposals must set aside budget and effort to run cohesion activities with the GenAI4EU central hub coordination and support action, and to coordinate with other EU AI initiatives such as existing Networks of Excellence, AI societies and associations, the horizontal HORIZON-RAISE call, and EIC Pathfinder projects being folded into RAISE. The project is also expected to link into the EU's AI Factories and Data Labs and make use of the AI-on-demand platform to share its results and grow the wider community.
