The Commission wanted proposals to build a foundation model — trainable on broad scientific data and adaptable to many downstream tasks — for one of four domains: materials, climate, environmental pollution or agricultural science. It wanted the models released openly, including source code and, where possible, training data, so the wider scientific community could adapt them.
