Funds two demonstration projects, worth up to EUR 10 million each, developing wireless bidirectional charging for parked electric cars that hits at least 90% power-transfer efficiency.
Beyond the headline efficiency target, the winning systems have to meet a named set of electromagnetic-compatibility and safety standards -- SAE J2954, the IEC 61980 series, CISPR 11 and ISO 19363 -- and avoid interfering with low-frequency navigation systems such as eLORAN, not just clear a generic safety bar. The Commission wants wireless, hands-free charging for parked light-duty electric vehicles that can also send power back to the grid, reaching at least 90% power-transfer efficiency in both directions and working reliably in rain, snow and dirt. Proposals must demonstrate the technology in at least three different urban areas for at least three months, and, as a Societal Readiness pilot, bring in social-science expertise to address public acceptance alongside the engineering.
