The Commission wants research into how electric-vehicle drivetrain components — excluding the battery cells themselves — age and degrade, so that maintenance, repair and design strategies can extend a vehicle's useful life and raise its resale value. Proposals should develop tools to predict component ageing, build extended-lifetime design concepts, and validate them with a full physical demonstrator, aiming for a 20% higher residual value than today's baseline vehicle.
