The Commission wants a standardised methodology for monitoring and verifying how much energy Wind-Assisted Propulsion systems β€” such as rotor sails or rigid wing sails β€” actually contribute to a ship's propulsion, so those savings can be counted reliably under the FuelEU Maritime Regulation and IMO emissions rules. Proposals must demonstrate at least one full-scale wind-assisted propulsion system on a real vessel and build a design-optimisation framework usable across different ship types.
