The European Commission wants research into how crops respond to multiple simultaneous stresses — drought, salinity, heat, pests — rather than single stresses studied in isolation, and how to breed for resilience against them. Proposals should combine local variety evaluation, high-throughput phenotyping, computational modelling and AI to identify traits and inform breeding programmes, while promoting low-input, biodiversity-friendly farming.
