Strengthening taxonomic approaches for biodiversity

Funds projects that build shared taxonomy databases or a European biodiversity genomics network to speed up species identification.

ClosedEuropean CommissionEU

Strengthening taxonomic approaches for biodiversity is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action from the European Commission that funds projects building shared taxonomy databases (Area A) or a European biodiversity genomics network (Area B) to speed up species identification; companies are eligible to take part directly. The topic funds two projects at up to EUR 12 million in EU contributi…

The European Commission wants to rebuild Europe's taxonomic expertise — the scientists who identify, name and classify species, from genomes to ecosystems — and its supporting infrastructure. Applicants choose either Area A (building an open catalogue of taxonomic and nomenclatural databases and reinforcing long-term monitoring) or Area B (widening access to genomic data and building a European biodiversity genomics system, including DNA barcoding and whole-genome sequencing).
