Innovative approaches for the spatial design of neighbourhoods
Funds teams that design and demonstrate new participatory methods for planning neighbourhood public spaces in at least three different countries.
Proposals must analyse the values, practices and stakeholder relations underpinning how each neighbourhood's public space is currently designed, and assess users' multisensory experience of it, including its beauty and aesthetics, not just its function. The European Commission's New European Bauhaus Facility wants projects that develop and test new methods for designing and planning neighbourhood public spaces, bringing in the perspectives of the people who actually use them. It is looking for approaches that assess how spatial design affects different users by gender, age and identity, and that use co-creation to fold in residents' diverse needs around safety, accessibility and climate resilience. Work must draw on social sciences and humanities expertise and account for the local culture of each neighbourhood it touches.
