Industrial Energy Storage Systems Prize

Pays teams up to $400,000 per phase to develop cost-effective energy storage for industrial facilities.

Between cyclesU.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Industrial Technologies OfficeUnited States

Winning Phase 3 teams may be required to work with ITO to generate a validation report for the Industrial Technology Validation program, on top of the possible cooperative agreement for continued development. The bench-scale data collected in Phase 2 is meant specifically to feed a techno-economic and/or life-cycle analysis showing the concept would work for real industrial partners, not just to pโ€ฆ

The prize wants cost-effective thermal or electric energy storage concepts that work at industrial-facility scale and apply across industrial sectors -- cooling, high-temperature (over 300C), or hybrid cooling/heating/power storage. It's looking for solutions that can shift energy demand so on-site or nearby renewables can better meet a facility's heat or power needs.
