Deep-Tech Startups Support Fund (International Joint R&D)

Subsidises Japanese deep-tech startups running joint R&D projects with a partner-country business.

NEDO funds the Japanese side of the joint project directly, while a matching public support organisation in the partner country funds its own country's business, under a co-funding scheme run through the Globalstars call with Japan. The eligible partner countries are Canada, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Austria, South Korea, Lithuania, Singapore, South Africa, Israe

The fund backs high-risk, long-horizon deep tech aimed at economic and social challenges. It funds work in quantum tech, AI, robotics, semiconductors and electronics, energy and environmental tech, biotech, novel materials, medical devices, aerospace, and various mining and industrial technologies -- but rules out anything built around nuclear power, plus drug discovery work like new drug development or regenerative medicine products.
