National Scholarships (Becas Nacionales)

Funds postgraduate students in Mexico in registered scholarship programmes through continuous national support.

Becas Nacionales is SECIHTI's continuous postgraduate scholarship programme supporting Mexican and foreign national students enrolled in master's, doctoral, or specialty programmes registered with Mexico's National Postgraduate System (Sistema Nacional de Posgrado, SNP). Administered by the Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación, the programme provides a monthly monetary stipend for the duration of the scholarship, covering all HCTI disciplines — sciences, humanities, technology, and innovation. Multiple convocatorias are issued per year, including windows for domestic and international programmes.

Eligibility is restricted to individual graduate students; universities and research organisations are not eligible as institutional applicants. Applicants must be enrolled in an SNP-registered programme located in Mexico and must not hold another SECIHTI scholarship simultaneously. The programme is open to both Mexican nationals and foreign nationals studying in Mexico, broadening its reach beyond citizenship-based restrictions common to many national scholarship schemes. Stipend amounts are defined in the Reglamento de Becas and per-convocatoria documentation.

Since October 2023, applications have been submitted through SECIHTI's digital platforms — Rizoma and Apeiron — replacing the prior CONACYT application system. Students should confirm their programme's current SNP registration status before applying, as programmes must maintain active SNP recognition for their students to qualify. Prospective applicants should monitor the SECIHTI website for the latest convocatoria announcements, review the eligibility and documentation requirements in each call, and apply promptly given that multiple deadlines occur throughout the calendar year.
