Industrial Readiness for Affordable Ka-band User Terminals (IRIS²)

Pays up to two industrial teams to advance manufacturing readiness for affordable Ka-band satellite user terminals for IRIS² and GOVSATCOM.

OpenEuropean CommissionEU

Proposals have to point to a concrete industrial result rather than a research finding on its own -- something like a production process ready for qualification, a calibrated hardware sub-assembly, a batch of pilot-run units, tested manufacturing equipment, or a costing model for production at scale. Any output also needs enough documented detail behind it -- design assumptions, interface paramete

The Commission wants projects that advance the industrial readiness of European Ka-band user-terminal technology, subsystems and manufacturing processes, aimed at cost-effective production for the EU's IRIS² secure-connectivity constellation and GOVSATCOM. It's looking for work on antenna-subsystem assembly and calibration, manufacturing throughput and unit-cost reduction, reducing supply-chain dependency on non-European sources, and industrialising 5G NR NTN-compliant modem and baseband subsystems.
