The Agentic Artificial Intelligence Call (AAIC) is a focused research grant program launched jointly by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI) and the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) to strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks for agentic AI in Qatar's financial sector. The 1st cycle opened on 7 January 2026 and closed on 18 February 2026, with award announcements scheduled for 30 June 2026. Each awarded project receives up to QAR 150,000 (approximately USD 41,095) for a duration of up to six months, making it a short-form policy-research grant rather than a multi-year applied science program.

The call designated a single focused research theme: pathways to responsible adoption of agentic AI in Qatar, covering global trends, regulatory strategies, and practical implementation frameworks for the financial sector. Eligible applicants are academic institutions and government entities inside Qatar; the Lead Principal Investigator must hold an approved terminal degree, be affiliated with an approved submitting institution inside Qatar, and may submit only one application in this cycle. Priority areas span natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, and social sciences, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of AI governance research.

AAIC is co-funded by QFC, Qatar's international business and financial centre, signaling direct relevance to financial regulation and fintech policy. The program follows QRDI's standard review process: proposal submission through the Innolight portal, research office vetting by 8 March 2026, external peer review, and formal award decision. Required documents included the AAIC RFA, research plan, joint funder support letter, and institutional supporting letter. A webinar recording was made available on YouTube to orient prospective applicants. Competitive proposals need to deliver actionable regulatory recommendations applicable to Qatar's financial sector context within the six-month project window.

Policy and regulatory research on the responsible adoption of agentic AI in Qatar's financial sector, including global governance frameworks and regulatory strategies.
