RFCS Steel Pilot and Demonstration Projects
Funds pilot and demonstration-scale steel installations that bridge research, innovation and commercialisation, from TRL 4-5 to TRL 7-8.
Applicants submit a Standard Application Form (RFCS) through the Portal by the single-stage deadline. Funded activity is expected to start at Technology Readiness Level 4-5 and reach TRL 7-8 by project end; the topic carries an indicative EUR 7.62 million share of the wider RFCS-2026 call.
The Research Fund for Coal & Steel funds pilot projects — construction, operation and development of installations at an appropriate scale — and demonstration projects covering construction and operation of industrial-scale steel installations, aiming to bridge the gap between research, innovation and commercialisation. Proposals must relate to one or more RFCS steel objectives and assess the expected industrial, economic, social and environmental benefits.
