The Academy of Medical Sciences administers this award jointly with the Wellcome Trust, and it's built for a single lead applicant: the scheme doesn't accept co-applicants, so one named scientist carries the award even though they can still draw on research assistance funded by it. Springboard Awards back basic biomedical scientists within five years of their first independent academic post -- for example a lecturer -- who hold a salaried position but don't yet have significant research funding. Applicants must have their host institution's support and be based at an eligible UK higher education institution; practising clinicians are not eligible.
