OpenAnthropicDeep-tech · core fit

The AI for Science Program is a rolling in-kind grant administered by Anthropic that provides up to $20,000 in Claude API credits — valid for six months from approval — to researchers at academic and nonprofit institutions working on scientific topics that Anthropic considers high priority. The program launched in May 2025 and accepts applications continuously, with selection decisions issued on the first Monday of each month by an Anthropic review team that includes subject-matter experts in relevant scientific fields.

Eligibility is restricted to researchers affiliated with accredited research institutions or nonprofit organizations; for-profit companies are explicitly excluded. Individual researchers may apply provided they are at least 18 years old (or the local age of majority), are not residents of sanctioned countries, and have obtained any required consent from their employing institution or university. Priority research areas include understanding complex biological systems, analyzing genetic data, accelerating drug discovery for major global disease burdens, and increasing agricultural productivity. Selected applicants undergo a biosecurity assessment before final approval to ensure the proposed work does not raise concerns about accelerating harmful biological applications.

The program is best suited to life-science and biomedical research groups that need large-scale language-model access for tasks such as literature synthesis, protein or gene annotation, clinical data analysis, or agricultural systems modeling. Because the award is API credits rather than cash, teams should verify that their workflows can be built on Claude's standard API feature set. The six-month validity window requires grantees to have a concrete, executable research plan ready at the time of application.

Provides up to $20,000 in Claude API credits to academic and nonprofit researchers, prioritizing biology, drug discovery, genetic data analysis, and agricultural productivity applications.
