Anthropic is a US public benefit corporation based in San Francisco and founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei. It describes itself as an AI safety and research company and states a purpose centered on the responsible development and maintenance of advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity.

Its external support routes are narrow and research-led rather than a broad public grant portfolio. The record includes the Anthropic Fellows Program, a four-month mentored research fellowship; the External Researcher Access Program, which gives approved AI safety and alignment researchers $1,000 in API credits; and the AI for Science Program, which offers up to $20,000 in API credits for a six-month period to eligible academic and nonprofit researchers, with particular attention to biology and life sciences.

Anthropic favors technical execution, safety relevance, and close review. Fellows are selected through application, reference checks, assessments, and interviews, while the credit-based programs are reviewed on a rolling basis, with monthly decisions anchored to the first Monday of each month. The overall posture is selective and research-oriented, with Claude at the center of its product work and AI safety treated as a systematic research discipline.
