The IGEM Commerce Track is an annual grant program administered by the Idaho Department of Commerce under the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) Council framework. It funds industry-university partnerships focused on bringing innovations to market, operating as the downstream commercial complement to the IGEM HERC Track administered by the State Board of Education. The program is governed by Idaho Code and IDAPA 28.02.03.250. Since inception, the program has cumulatively invested more than $3.3 million in industry-academic partnerships across Idaho.

Two applicant configurations are eligible: a university researcher who has identified an industry partner to help commercialize their innovation, or an Idaho industry member seeking an academic partner to validate or advance a technology. Both the for-profit company and the university must be active participants — solo applications from either party alone are not described as eligible. Applicants must operate in Idaho, reflecting the program's focus on strengthening the state's economic base through locally-grounded technology commercialization. The IGEM Commerce Track is best suited to Idaho-based companies with a developed technology concept that requires academic validation or co-development, or to university researchers who have engaged a credible industry collaborator ready to advance a project toward commercial deployment. Given the program's emphasis on near-term commercialization over basic research, the strongest applications typically pair a clearly scoped technology with an industry partner that has a direct path to market adoption in Idaho or regionally.
