Desalination and Water Purification Research Program: Research Projects
Funds lab-scale and pilot-scale research that cuts the cost or energy of treating impaired water for reuse.
Treating impaired water for reuse is technically possible; what stops it scaling is cost, energy use and the general friction of adopting something new. This programme funds knocking those barriers down, one process at a time.

Laboratory-scale and pilot-scale research and development of new desalination and water-treatment processes, materials or technologies that reduce the cost, energy or other barriers to treating impaired water for beneficial use, with a stated pathway to commercialisation. Testing of already-established treatment processes and construction of permanent facilities are out of scope.
