The Vietnam–Japan Semiconductor Science and Technology Cooperation 2026 is a bilateral grant call administered on the Vietnamese side by NAFOSTED (National Foundation for Science and Technology Development) under Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology. The program targets joint research and development tasks in the semiconductor field conducted by paired Vietnamese and Japanese research teams, with Vietnamese-side funding up to 10 billion VND per project (approximately USD 400,000 at mid-2025 rates). Project duration is capped at 42 months. Submissions are governed on the Vietnamese side by Circular 37/2014/TT-BKHCN as amended December 30, 2024.
Four technology domains are prioritized: (1) Design — logic, memory, low-power, and high-power circuits; (2) Materials — advanced packaging, green-transition semiconductors, and next-generation components; (3) Support Technology — EDA tools, analysis, and evaluation; (4) Manufacturing — current and mature-node production processes and PDK design. Vietnamese applicants must be universities or public research institutions; for-profit companies are not eligible on the Vietnamese side. Bilateral team formation is mandatory — single-country submissions are explicitly excluded from review. Vietnamese proposals are submitted online with digital signatures via the OMS platform at stm.mst.gov.vn and must simultaneously be submitted to the Japanese coordinating authority.
The 2026 call deadline was June 4, 2026, meaning this cycle is now closed. Researchers planning for the next bilateral cycle should identify Japanese counterpart institutions early, confirm parallel eligibility on the Japanese side with that country's coordinating agency, and allow adequate lead time for bilateral proposal coordination. The NAFOSTED contact for the International Cooperation Division is Đặng Thị Hương (dthuong009@mst.gov.vn, +84 94 891 6062).
