Water Resource Recovery Prize

Pays up to $1 million to teams recovering energy, nutrients and water from wastewater plants.

Part of DOE's Water Security Grand Challenge, the prize ran in two phases open only to teams built around a wastewater treatment facility partner, not to a single company working alone. Phase 1 asked teams for two facility engineering schematics, a business case showing improvement over the facility's existing baseline, and a technical description validating cost-effectiveness; as many as ten Phasโ€ฆ

Looks for interdisciplinary teams โ€” wastewater treatment plants, engineering and design firms, technology developers and resource customers โ€” that can design holistic resource recovery plans for small- to medium-sized municipal wastewater facilities. Solutions should cut treatment costs by recovering energy, nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen, or reusable clean water.
