The PRIME Prize is for U.S.-based manufacturers of solar PV modules or inverters that have never had a product EPEAT-registered before. EPEAT is the only solar-product ecolabel the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends for federal purchasing. DOE wants to expand the small number of EPEAT-certified solar products so federal buyers, who are set to purchase more solar power for construction and power purchase agreements, can meet procurement rules that require certified, eco-labeled equipment.
