EIC Pathfinder
Offers frontier research in the European Union through grants for foundational development across disciplines.
EIC Pathfinder is the European Innovation Council’s early-stage research route for breakthrough technologies at TRL 1 to 4. It funds research teams working in any scientific field through Pathfinder Open, and it also runs Pathfinder Challenges for predefined thematic areas. The program sits inside the EIC portfolio as the route for very early, high-risk research that still needs a scientific basis before market-readiness work can begin. Awards reach up to €4 million per project. Consortia of at least three independent legal entities from different EU or associated countries are the standard form, although single applicants can apply under the Challenges track. Successful projects can also access Booster Grants of €50,000 for commercialization testing, together with EIC Business Acceleration Services such as coaching, mentoring, and partner networks. The program suits teams that can defend the scientific leap and collaborate across borders. It is strongest for research groups, universities, and companies that need room to prove a concept before a transition or scale-up route becomes realistic. The clearest applications bring a technically ambitious idea, a credible research team, and a topic that fits either the open call or one of the challenge themes.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
