Postdoctoral Research Grants

Provides EU Cohesion-funded individual fellowships developing early-career researchers at Latvian scientific institutions and enterprises.

Postdoctoral Research Grants (2021 to 2027) sit under the Latvian Council of Science and are funded through the EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021 to 2027. The programme supports early-career researchers at Latvian scientific institutions and enterprises, and it replaced the older 2014 to 2020 generation that ran through VIAA. The total budget is EUR 50.89 million, with a per-project cap of EUR 192,360. The current framework runs from 17 June 2024 to 31 December 2029, and the fourth selection round was announced for February 2026. Applications are handled in Latvian through the national portal, and the funding structure combines ERDF, state, and private co-financing. This is a strong fit for a host organisation that can offer a credible research environment and for a postdoc project that can stand up to EU-style audit and reporting through the end of 2029. Because enterprises are included alongside scientific institutions, the programme is broader than a university-only fellowship scheme, but the public case still needs a clear research spine and a host that can manage the compliance load.
