Latvijas Zinātnes padome, or the Latvian Council of Science, is Latvia's national research-funding council under the Ministry of Education and Science. Its annual grant scale is about EUR 16.8 million, and it funds competitive research across all fields of science, from fundamental work to applied projects and researcher development.

Its core routes are Fundamental and Applied Research Projects, State Research Programmes, Postdoctoral Research Grants, and Baltic Bonus. State Research Programmes are commissioned by sectoral ministries, postdoctoral grants can reach EUR 192,360, and Baltic Bonus adds EUR 5,000 for a coordinator or EUR 3,000 for a partner in cross-Baltic collaboration projects. LZP also serves as Latvia's National Contact Point for Horizon Europe and the European Research Council, while those EU programmes are handled separately.

LZP is strongest for universities, research institutes, and research-active firms that can compete on scientific quality and clear calls. Applications move through the national scientific activity system, and the postdoctoral line is aimed at building the next generation of researchers. The council operates as a disciplined national gatekeeper for publicly funded science, with annual calls and ministry-set priorities rather than open-ended support.
