FHF Aquaculture R&D Program

Supports Applied innovation development grants for Norway's aquaculture sector fish health, production biology, sea lice control, environmental sustainability, and processing.

FHF's Aquaculture R&D Program is the main seafood research route under Fiskeri- og havbruksnæringens forskningsfinansiering, the industry-financed body in Tromsø that is owned by Norway's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. Its purpose is to move research money into the aquaculture parts of Norway's seafood sector and keep the field tied to practical industry needs. The 2026 budget is split across fish health and welfare, production biology and technology, environmental sustainability, sea lice control, common aquaculture areas, and product quality and processing, with a total aquaculture allocation of 560 MNOK. Calls are issued several times a year, applications go through the FHF portal with ID-porten login, project spans are usually one to three years, and call sizes run from 3 to 20 MNOK. Strong proposals usually come from Norwegian research institutions or seafood companies that can show practical value for the sector and a realistic project plan. The funder's approach favours applied work, clear industry relevance, and collaboration that can move from research into production conditions, animal health, or processing improvements.
