Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition
Provides deep-tech startup competition for university-affiliated teams, supporting long-term sustainable commercialization and growth.
The Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition is a biennial deep-tech startup competition run by SMU's Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship since 2002. It targets teams with at least one university-affiliated founder, and the 2025 edition drew more than 1,500 applications from 91 countries. The prize pool is above S$2.5 million, with awards spanning cash, investment, and grants. The published award set includes the StartupSG Grant Prize at S$50,000, other named cash prizes, investment prizes from Antler and Wavemaker Partners, and recognition awards such as the People's Choice prizes. The competition does not claim equity or intellectual property rights from participants. The competition is built for university-linked teams moving from idea to traction, with two tracks that span pre-revenue concepts and revenue-generating companies up to Series A. Its 2025 focus was urban solutions and sustainability, and recent winners show a bias toward deep-tech work on materials, waste reduction, and energy storage.
