Technology Agency of the Czech Republic
Funds Czech applied research and innovation projects linking companies, researchers, and public-sector needs.
Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) is the Czech Republic's national funding agency for applied research, experimental development, and innovation. It is an independent state body under the government and runs its calls through SISTA, with English-facing proposal handling and Czech state-aid rules on the back end. The agency focuses on projects from enterprises, SMEs, universities, and research organisations.
Its core route is the SIGMA programme, which now carries sub-objectives for commercialisation, industrial chairs, bilateral cooperation, and Seal of Excellence top-ups, alongside older and parallel programmes such as TREND, ÉTA, PROSTŘEDÍ PRO ŽIVOT, KAPPA, DELTA 2, and GAMA 2. Most projects co-finance 40-75% of costs and require a clear path to use or commercialise the results. The programme family spans grants from CZK 220,000 under ÉTA to CZK 42 million under SIGMA, with coverage that reaches energy, materials, manufacturing, and the wider applied-innovation stack.
TA CR is a practical fit when a Czech team needs structured co-funding for R&D with a business case, not open-ended research support. Its international portfolio links into M-ERA.NET, Eurostars 3, CET Partnership, Water4All, Biodiversity Partnership, and Driving Urban Transitions, which gives applicants a route into cross-border consortia as well as domestic calls. The agency's working style is procedural and programme-led, with SISTA as the single entry point for proposals and reporting.
