MassChallenge is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit founded in Boston in 2009. It is a 501(c)(3) accelerator and prize platform led by CEO Cait Brumme, and its scale is visible in the more than 5,000 startups it has supported, the $16 billion those alumni have raised, and the 90,000 jobs they have created. The model is zero-equity and free to enter.

The organization now operates through hubs in Boston, Dallas, Jerusalem, Renens in Switzerland, and London, and it organizes programming around healthcare and life sciences, security and resiliency, sustainable food systems, climate, and global financial systems. Challenge Programs pair startups with corporate partners, Traction Programs support early-stage founders in regulated markets, and partnership-driven efforts like the Verizon Community Disaster Resilience Innovation Accelerator extend the platform. Prize sizes vary by program, with the Swiss cohort reaching a $1 million maximum and the Verizon program capped at $50,000.
